paskwāhk ka-māmiskōtamihk: “Gathering to Discuss Grasslands Conservation”

Explore the grasslands as living cultural landscapes, where traditional knowledge, language, and identity are deeply connected to the land.

Thursday, August 27, 5-8 pm

Northeast Swale in Saskatoon

Join us to discuss the importance of grasslands and celebrate the International Year of Rangelands and Pastoralists. Elder Roland Duquette will share insights into the grasslands as living cultural landscapes, where traditional knowledge, land-based practices, and language revitalization come together to sustain Indigenous heritage. Grounded in the deep relationships between people and place, this workshop highlights how stories, values, and identity are embedded within the grasslands themselves—offering a powerful perspective on their cultural and historical significance.

Full details and registration starting July 20 here.

This event is offered in partnership between the Meewasin Valley Authority and the kihci-okāwīmāw askiy Knowledge Centre (Plains Cree for “Great Mother Earth Knowledge Centre”) at the University of Saskatchewan.

We offer both printed and PDF versions of these materials. Printed pamphlets are available in the box at the west entrance of the Northeast Swale during the warmer months. You can also pick them up for free at events we attend.

A big thank you to the Saskatoon Unitarians and Garage Band for their financial support, which makes it possible for us to produce printed materials.
